Permanent exhibitions
Nature of the Turiec region
The original eponymous exhibition was founded in 1979 as a result of the acquisition and research activities
of the then science department workers Turiansky Museum Andreja Kmea Martin. In the years 2001 - 2002
was carried out a reinstallation. In 1998 was made available exposure Kmetianum, paid person Andreja Kmea
and activities Slovak Museum Society. Both challenges were dismantled in 2010 because of the overall
reconstruction of the museum building.
The aim of the current exhibition is to bring comprehensive and detailed
overview of the geology and historical development of the basin and surrounding mountains.
The total exposure will be based mainly on the three-dimensional material, which will be
represented by typical rocks, minerals and fossils representing the region. Each historical
period of development will be to better understand the developmental stages presented either
on three-dimensional model of the territory, or the full-color graphic schemes. Three-dimensional
material and the scheme will be complemented by color (also black and white) macro and micro
images of geological phenomena approaching development area (presentation of notice sites, cave
decorations, photomicrographs of rocks and their textures and structures, etc.), Accompanying
texts and labels. Part of Living Nature content will build on part Inanimate nature after the
timeline of Earth's geological period in the Holocene, the last Quaternary glaciation. The basic
concept of the exhibition is the presentation of biota through various habitats but with greater
emphasis on the ecological relationships between inanimate parts of nature and vegetation, and the
flora and fauna. The primary content line should reflect the transformation of the vegetation with
the conversion of abiotic factors - especially with the change in altitude from the lowest part of
the Turiec basin to the highest parts of Little and Great Fatra, but also the change in ground water
levels. Secondary line will consist of the presentation and evaluation of the most significant negative,
but also positive human interventions into the structure and composition of vegetation cover in
different vegetation zones in the historical development of civilization in a particular area of
focus is on the present state.
Kmetianum - oldiest collection of Andrej Kme from end of 19th. and begin 20th century.
